03 – 15May2022 – The Lord make His face shine upon you - Luke 24:50-53 - THE BLESSING OF GOD - Bible reading: Psalms 80:3

“Thank You, Lord Jesus. Day by day, we are blessed in You. We are in Your care, shelter, goodness, keeping and protection. Lord, teach us not to live dry, worn-out and dejected lives but lives of abundance in You. We should be always transferring Your blessing to others. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.”

The Lord blessed the disciples as He parted from them.

Luke 24:50-51 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. (51) Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven.

We as His disciples need to be living in the blessing of God. This is our privilege.

Numbers 6:25 The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you;

The LORD make His face shine upon you

What is the understanding of this blessing of God that He makes His face shine on us?

Daniel’s heart was broken over the desperate condition of his people and nation.

Daniel 9:17-19 Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord's sake cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary, which is desolate. (18) O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies. (19) O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name."

God longs to shine His face on us but we see in our nations and in our world, desolation upon desolation. This is not how the Lord wanted mankind to live but we have brought this upon ourselves. God’s heart is broken over the situation of our world.

There needs to be in us a heart of repentance before God and seek His favour on us. Who is to repent for the people? It is the church. Just as Daniel prayed on behalf of the people and nation, we must repent and pray to God, for our people and our nations and seek God’s face to shine on us.

Sadly, the church, instead of carrying the pain of the nation upon us, is only bothered for our own needs to be met. Will we repent and ask the Lord to change us?

It is only when the face of the Lord shines on man that man will be saved.

Psalms 31:16 Make Your face shine upon Your servant; Save me for Your mercies' sake. Psalms 80:3 Restore us, O God; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!

As we pray, we can receive the blessing of His face shining on us.

Psalms 119:135 Make Your face shine upon Your servant, And teach me Your statutes.

God’s face to shine on us is the way by which we are taught by the Lord.

The disciples wanted to know why the Lord taught the people through parables.

Matthew 13:10-16 And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?" (11) He answered and said to them, " Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. (12) For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him . (13) Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. (14) And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: 'HEARING YOU WILL HEAR AND SHALL NOT UNDERSTAND, AND SEEING YOU WILL SEE AND NOT PERCEIVE; (15) FOR THE HEARTS OF THIS PEOPLE HAVE GROWN DULL. THEIR EARS ARE HARD OF HEARING, AND THEIR EYES THEY HAVE CLOSED, LEST THEY SHOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, LEST THEY SHOULD UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEARTS AND TURN, SO THAT I SHOULD HEAL THEM.' (16) But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;

If we are not in the blessing of God, then God’s word will not make any sense to us. Even the little understanding of God’s word that we have, will disappear from us, when we do not seek His face to shine on us.

The one who understands the word and continues in the presence of God, will have a greater understanding of God’s word. Whoever has, to him more will be given.

Many have not sought the face of the Lord but have sought the material things of life. When people’s heart pursues material blessing then they will be blindsided from the understanding of God’s word.

Jeremiah 2:13 “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.

God’s face to shine on us is His presence with us.

Psalms 21:6 For You have made him most blessed forever; You have made him exceedingly glad with Your presence.

Thought to ponder

If you have lost the joy for His word… then you are in deep crisis.
