Luke 16 19-31 Released from self cetredness 21 Persons of holy conduct and godliness
24May2020 - *Persons of holy conduct and godliness* - _Luke 16:19-31_ - Bible reading: _II Peter 3:10-12_
_Luke 16:24 “Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'_
People make jokes about hell but hell is a place of torment.
It is a place prepared by God for the devil and his angels. _Matthew 25:41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:_
It is also a place of fire prepared for the perdition of ungodly men. _II Peter 3:7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men._
It is a place of unimaginable horror. _Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths._
This terrible place of hell will come on us suddenly when we least expect it to happen. _II Peter 3:10-12 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. (11) Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, (12) looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?_
Peter is warning as well as encouraging us that since the elements will melt with fervent heat, what manner of persons ought we to be in *holy conduct and godliness*. This time for us is to be sincere to surrender to the Lord completely and allow His Holy Spirit to have full sway over our lives, for we cannot please Him by our flesh.
The people of the world, who reject God and His gospel will be punished with everlasting destruction. _II Thessalonians 1:6-10 since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, (7) and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, (8) in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (10) when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed._
_Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name." Revelation 19:20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshipped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. Revelation 20:10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Hell is a terrible place, where the beast, the false prophet and the devil are and also anyone whose names are not written in the Book of Life. _Revelation 20:15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire._
*Thought to ponder*
“…Fear Him who, after He has killed, has the power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!”
