17 – 29May2022 – The church to exercise dominion - Luke 24:50-53 - THE BLESSING OF GOD - Bible reading: Matthew 16:18-19

“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have blessed us to have dominion over all that You have created. We are here to fulfil Your primary purpose for creating us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.”

Luke 24:50-51 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. (51) Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven.

We have studied the Aaronic blessing and now we are meditating on the creation blessing.

Genesis 1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

God created man in their image, in order for man, to have dominion over all of His creation. This is man’s primary purpose. From an intimate fellowship with God, which is holiness, we were to be His vice-regents over all that God has created. We were, therefore, created to be priests and kings to our God.

We sinned against God and we came into the clutches of the devil. Though we are prisoners of the devil, our position as vice-regents of God was never taken away from us. We have lost fellowship with God, because of our sin, but we continue to be vice-regents of God, over His creation. Romans 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

The devil, knowing that we are still the legal executives to rule creation, manipulates us. The devil was never given authority over creation. We are puppets in the devil’s hands, so completely, that the devil told Jesus that he had authority over all the kingdoms of the world, when in reality he had no authority, whatsoever.

Luke 4:5-6 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. (6) And the devil said to Him, " All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

The devil controls man to do his will. II Timothy 2:25-26 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, (26) and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Friends, do we see the pathetic state of man? Man needed to be legally rescued from the hold of satan, so that man could once again, in fellowship with God, rule over God’s creation, which is God’s primary plan for man and creation.

Jesus went to the cross, to put in place the full and final settlement for the predicament of man.

Colossians 2:13-15 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, (14) having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. (15) Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

When we come in repentance and true faith and receive what Jesus has done for us on the cross, we are forgiven of our sin but we are also set free from bondage to the evil one. Since we are free from the devil, we become a new creation in Christ Jesus.

II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

We go back to the first position and primary purpose for God creating man, which is to have dominion over all that God has created. We fully embrace for ourselves, the creation blessing.

Those who are the new creation people are the church. We have the mandate to push out the enemy and establish the dominion or the kingdom of God, here on earth.

Ephesians 6:11-13 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (13) Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

The enemy is currently operating, without any resistance, in various spheres. We must send the devil fleeing in all domains and establish the dominion or the kingdom of Jesus. This is the task of the church.

Matthew 16:18-19 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (19) And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

The church has in her hands the keys to the kingdom of heaven. We are to bring God's kingdom on earth, which is why we pray, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Thought to ponder

Are you actively bringing the kingdom rule of God into your particular domain?
