01 – 13May2022 – To be reconciled with God - Luke 24:50-53 - THE BLESSING OF GOD - Bible reading: Colossians 1:19-20
“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You are commissioning us to be Your witnesses. You are sending us out with Your blessing, to be a blessing to others. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
We now begin a new study of Luke 24:50-53, which we will title, THE BLESSING OF GOD. We had been studying, Luke 24:36-49, which we had titled, COMMISSIONED TO BE HIS WITNESSES. This study was of 26 lessons.
This is the last paragraph in the Gospel of Luke and with this study, we will conclude the study of the Gospel of Luke. We praise the Lord for His faithfulness in leading us in this study.
God willing, once we complete the study of the Gospel of Luke, we will start with the Acts of the Apostles, as these are the two books written by Dr Luke.
Luke 24:50-53 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. (51) Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. (52) And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, (53) and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.
The Gospel of Luke completes with the blessing of God. The Lord ascended into heaven and as He ascended, He blessed His disciples.
Acts 1:8-12 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (9) Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. (10) And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, (11) who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven." (12) Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.
The blessing of God is about the reconciliation of man with God. Life is in God. All things hold together in Him. Colossians 1:17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. God is therefore reconciling all things to Himself. God is our blessing.
Colossians 1:19-20 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, (20) and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
To be one with God is the blessing for mankind. This is the blessing we enjoy and this is the blessing with which we yearn to bless all people and creation.
Ephesians 1:9-10 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, (10) that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.
This is the concern and pain of God’s heart that man and creation should be reconciled with Him. We see this being revealed in the Abrahamic blessing.
Genesis 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."
As children of Abraham, we are children of blessing. We are blessed in God and we bring blessing to all the families of the earth.
Psalms 22:27 All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations Shall worship before You.
People must turn to God, and be reconciled with Him. Reconciliation with God is the place of our worship. This is the blessing that the Lord wants man to enjoy.
Isaiah 49:6 Indeed He says, 'It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.' "
We are sent out to be the salvation of God to the ends of the earth. People are in a state of death and our task is to bless them and give them salvation.
Let us consider the blessing that the Lord asked Aaron to pronounce upon the people of Israel.
Numbers 6:23-27 "Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, 'This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: (24) " The LORD bless you and keep you; (25) The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; (26) The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace ." (27) "So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them."
We shall look closely at the Aaronic blessing. As we conclude the study of the Gospel of Luke, we conclude with the blessing of God.
Thought to ponder
We live in the Shalom of God and we bring others into the Shalom of God.
