It is good to reiterate the core gospel message. _I Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, (2) by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. (3) For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that *Christ died for our sins* according to the Scriptures, (4) and that *He was buried*, and that *He rose again* the third day according to the Scriptures,_
The three core items of the gospel message are *1. The death of Jesus 2. The burial of Jesus and 3. The resurrection of Jesus*. These three elements must be understood and these three must be shared as we communicate and share the gospel with others.
These three core elements of the gospel message are seen here in _Luke 18:33 They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again."_
We have begun looking as to why it was necessary for Jesus to be killed and we have seen two reasons. The first being that the problem of sin in us needed to be settled and this was settled before God by the sinless blood of Jesus that was shed for us. Jesus had to die for life is in the blood.
The second reason for the death of Jesus was that the wages of sin, which is death needed to be settled before God. Jesus died on the cross when He was separated from the Father _(My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me)_. He was reunited with the Father on the cross and His last word was, “Father…”. This was the validation that the cost of death, which was on us, was also paid for.
The third reason for the death of Jesus on the cross was that the death that Satan inflicted on us too would be disarmed and Satan would be made a public spectacle. Satan held a document against us before God that we are sinners and therefore we deserved to die. He claimed that he had the right to hold us in his bondage, for we yielded to his temptation and fell into sin.
Jesus broke the chains of the devil and set us free by His substitutionary death for us on the cross. _Colossians 2:13-15 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, (14) having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. (15) Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it._
All of what Jesus has given to us, by His death, must be received by faith. This is the first core element of the gospel. As we receive the profits of Jesus’ death on the cross, on our behalf, we are reconciled back to God, which is God’s grand design – *reconciliation of all of creation*.
_Colossians 1:19-23 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, (20) and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace *through the blood of His cross*. (21) And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled (22) in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— (23) if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister._
The gospel message is for us to continue with what we have received through Jesus’ death for us on the cross. The gospel message begins at a particular point in a person’s life journey but the gospel message is a life long voyage with the Lord. The gospel is good news and so the good news is ongoing and not just a point of entry into the family of God.
How is the gospel message an ongoing experience? The death of Jesus on the cross has to become our staple diet. _Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me._
The daily exercise for us is that the self in us, which repeatedly seeks to assert its rule over us, must be taken to the cross and be crucified.
As we commune with the Holy Spirit, He will alert us of the self in us seeking significance. It is for us, at that very moment, in the enablement of the Holy Spirit, to take that particular issue to the cross and be crucified with Jesus, by faith. It is then that the life of Jesus will manifest from within us.
_II Corinthians 4:10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body._
*Thought to ponder*
```Are you always carrying in you the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus is manifest in you?```
