The three core items of the gospel message are *1. The death of Jesus 2. The burial of Jesus and 3. The resurrection of Jesus*. These three elements must be understood and these three must be shared as we communicate and share the gospel with others.
We have considered the death of Jesus and the application of the death of Jesus in us in an ongoing, everyday manner, in order for us to live out the Christ life. _II Corinthians 4:10 *always* carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body._
The gospel message is not just a onetime encounter but an ongoing, joyful reality. We are people of the good news.
_Luke 18:33 They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again."_
Jesus died and His earthly or fleshly body was buried. He had to be buried and it was from burial that He rose again in a spiritual body. Often, much emphasis is given to the death and the resurrection of Jesus (which ought to be given) but the burial of Jesus is glossed over.
Let us take the time to look at the burial of Jesus.
We had a problem with our flesh. _Romans 7:10 And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death._ The law is good but the law which is good was bringing death in us. Why was this so?
_Romans 7:12-14 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good. (13) Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful._
Sin, which is in our flesh was producing death in us and not life and so the law which was to bring life in us turned out to bring death in us. This was not the fault of the law but the fault of sin in the flesh.
_(14) For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin._ In us, that is in our flesh, good does not dwell. We desire to do good, for we are created in the image of God, but we are not able to do good because of the law of sin, which operates in our flesh. _Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find._
The law of sin and death is working in our flesh. _Romans 7:23-24 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members._ We can do nothing about this law of sin and death that functions in us. _(24) O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?_
This is why Jesus came. He came to deliver us from this body of death, from the law of sin and death that was running in us. _I John 3:5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin._ Jesus came in the flesh but He lived without sin in His flesh.
Look at the plan of God. _Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,_ Jesus broke the domination of sin in the flesh.
This sinless body of Jesus, which broke the law of sin and death in the flesh, was buried.
When a person dies and his or her body is buried, decaying and decomposition begin right away. Whereas, the body of Jesus was buried and His body saw no decay or decomposition.
_Acts 13:34-39 And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, He has spoken thus: 'I WILL GIVE YOU THE SURE MERCIES OF DAVID.' (35) Therefore He also says in another Psalm: 'YOU WILL NOT ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO SEE CORRUPTION.' (36) "For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption; (37) but He whom God raised up saw no corruption. (38) Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; (39) and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses._
Just as we identified and continue to identify with the death of Jesus. The gospel message is about continually identifying with the burial of Jesus.
Our old man, the flesh is buried with the sinless body of Jesus, by faith. This ongoing experience is what sets us up, for us to now have the new life of Jesus flowing through us.
Without death and burial, there can be no resurrection.
*Thought to ponder*
```Is there an ongoing experience of the burial of the old man with Jesus, happening in you?```
