18Feb2020 - *The fountain of living waters* - _Luke 15:11-32_ - Bible reading: _John 4:13-15_

_Luke 15:14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want._

The younger son had grown up in the loving atmosphere of his father’s home but yet he wanted to go his own way. He would have surely known that the way he was choosing to go, would only cause him misery, but now he was sliding down a slippery slope and there was no stopping his wretched state of free fall.

When a person rejects the ways of the Lord, there is sorrow upon sorrow. Anything that the person does to fill the void, will only be ever more frustrating. _Isaiah 5:24-25 Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, And the flame consumes the chaff, So their root will be as rottenness, And their blossom will ascend like dust; Because they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, And despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. (25) Therefore the anger of the LORD is aroused against His people; He has stretched out His hand against them And stricken them, And the hills trembled. Their carcasses were as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this His anger is not turned away, But His hand is stretched out still._

The natural consequence of rejecting God’s ways is the wrath of the God, but at the same time, God is also the one, who comes searching for those in misery, seeking to restore them back to fullness of life in Him.

_Amos 8:9-12 "And it shall come to pass in that day," says the Lord GOD, "That I will make the sun go down at noon, And I will darken the earth in broad daylight; (10) I will turn your feasts into mourning, And all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth on every waist, And baldness on every head; I will make it like mourning for an only son, And its end like a bitter day. (11) "Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord GOD, "That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD. (12) They shall wander from sea to sea, And from north to east; They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the LORD, But shall not find it._ When people reject God’s ways, they are in delusion and God’s word does not penetrate their confused mind.

The woman at the well was in this condition. She had no way out of the treacherous slope in which she was sliding further into misery, but the Lord was offering her *the fountain of living waters*. _John 4:13-15 Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, (14) but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." (15) The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw."_ Praise the Lord, she was restored.

*Thought to ponder*
