26 – 09 Feb 2022 – The new covenant relationship - Luke 23:44-49 - THE DEATH OF JESUS - Bible reading: Hebrews 13:20-21

“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that we are sealed by Your blood by which we are in a covenant relationship with You. Our mind is not able to grasp the extent of the blessing with which You have blessed us by bringing us into a covenant relationship with You. We give You all the glory and praise and in Your precious name we pray, Amen.”

We have come almost to the end of the study of the death of Jesus. We have been studying the final two incidents that took place at the death of Jesus.

John 19:34-37 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. (35) And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. (36) For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, "NOT ONE OF HIS BONES SHALL BE BROKEN." (37) And again another Scripture says, "THEY SHALL LOOK ON HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED."

We have been considering the blood of Jesus that was shed for us. We have understood the covenant relationship into which Jesus has brought us because of our faith in Him.

I Peter 1:18-20 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, (19) but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (20) He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you

We have been redeemed with the precious blood of Jesus as a Lamb without blemish and without spot. Jesus was foreordained before the foundation of the world to be the Lamb of God that was slain. This is the eternal plan of God. The human mind cannot comprehend the ways of God. We must receive this understanding by faith. This is the identity of Jesus in eternity. He is the Lamb of God, slain for the sin of man.

Our life stands complete before God because of being washed by the blood of Jesus.

Hebrews 13:20-21 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, (21) make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

When we look at the cross and the blood that was shed for us, we must stand in awe at the ways of God, which is beyond human comprehension.

Let us see how Jesus is seen and worshipped in eternity.

Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

This is how Jesus is seen. Nations will stand before God because of the Lamb that was slain.

Revelation 5:12-14 saying with a loud voice: " Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing !" (13) And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: " Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever !" (14) Then the four living creatures said, "Amen!" And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.

This is the picture of eternity. Worship is being constantly given to the One who sits on the throne and to the Lamb that was slain. This is how, we, who live in time, space and matter, must see Jesus.

Here are several other references from the book of Revelation of Jesus being the Lamb that was slain.

Revelation 6:16, 7:9-17, 12:11, 13:8, 17:14, 21:23, 22:1, 22:3;

This is how it will be at the return of our Lord Jesus.

Revelation 1:7-8 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. (8) "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End," says the Lord, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

All the tribes of the earth will mourn when they see the One who was pierced by man.

Today, the world is rejecting Jesus, outrightly. They do not want to consider God’s plan for man’s redemption and salvation through the blood of Jesus. Our task as the church is to continue to plead with the world to be reconciled with God through the cleansing of the blood of Jesus.

Jesus is coming with clouds and every eye will see Him. They will fall on their knees before Him. Then, it will be too late for they had rejected God’s provision for man to partake of His eternal covenant by the blood of Jesus.

The new covenant relationship is to make us complete in every good work to do His will, working in us what is well-pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ.

Thought to ponder

God, Himself, makes us complete.
