Luke 13 10-17 The nature of Christ 01 Instrument for Jesus
01Oct19 - *Instruments for Jesus* _Luke 13:10-17_ - Bible reading: *Luke 4:18-19*
_Luke 13:10-12 Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. (11) And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. (12) But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, "Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity."_
We see here an incident of Jesus, healing a woman, who was bent over for eighteen years because of a spirit of infirmity. This healing happened in a synagogue on the Sabbath.
The problem with this lady was not just a physical one of being bent over but she was under a spirit of infirmity. She was hurting deeply on the inside and this was manifested by the physical problem of being bent over. God raises up those who are bowed down. _Psalm 145:14._
God’s heart goes out for those who are hurting and there are so many such people all around us. We are to be instruments for Jesus, carrying His pain for those, who are bent over because of various hurts and sorrows. These sorrows and hurts in their life, becomes an entry point for satan to control them and then the spirit of infirmity within people, manifests in many physical ways.
The gospel message is all about caring and setting free those who are under different bondages and sorrows in life. _Luke 4:18-19 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED; (19) TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD."_
Jesus saw this woman who was bent over and called her. This is the role of the church, which is to seek and search for people such as her, all around us and connect with them. _Galatians 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ._ Today, if we realise that we are not concerned for the hurting people around us, will we stop, repent, ask the Lord to forgive us and ask Him to give us His eyes to see people in their true status?
*Thought to ponder*
Mission for the church is at our door step. Let’s begin right there, before God takes us to the ends of the earth
