01Nov19 - *Our safety is in Christ* - _Luke 13:31-35_ - Bible reading: _Nehemiah 6:9-11_

_Luke 13:31 On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, "Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You."_

The Pharisees had several problems with Jesus. Here we see them trying to frighten Jesus. They were lovers of money and Jesus spoke strongly against the love of money. They wanted the praise of men. For pretense of being spiritual and religious they made long prayers. Most importantly they were afraid that people will believe in Jesus and their power and position will be taken away from them. _John 11:47-48 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, "What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. (48) If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation."

This is what the world does to us, since they see us standing for truth and righteousness. They threaten us and frighten us and do not want us to be the salt and the light of the world. Nehemiah had to face these threats as he was building the wall in Jerusalem. _Nehemiah 6:9-11 For they all were trying to make us afraid, saying, "Their hands will be weakened in the work, and it will not be done." Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands. (10) Afterward I came to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was a secret informer; and he said, "Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to kill you; indeed, at night they will come to kill you." (11) And I said, "Should such a man as I flee? And who is there such as I who would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in!"_ Amos the prophet too faced the similar predicament. _Amos 7:12-13 Then Amaziah said to Amos: "Go, you seer! Flee to the land of Judah. There eat bread, And there prophesy. (13) But never again prophesy at Bethel, For it is the king's sanctuary, And it is the royal residence."_

Our eyes need to be on the Lord and know that our safety comes from Christ. _Psalm 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. Psalm 46:7 The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah Psalm 62:1-2 To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. (2) He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved._

*Thought to ponder*

```Are you relying on the Lord or are the threats of people, weighing on you?```
