Fri16Jul221 - *Life lived for eternity* - _Luke 22:14-20_ – PARTAKING OF THE LORD’S SUPPER (01) – Bible reading: _John 12:23-26_
The Lord is calling us to be aligned with Him and with Him in His time.
We must always know that we ought not to operate in this world according to our time frame but we are here to function in the time frame of God.
We now move to a new paragraph of study which is _Luke 22:14-20_. We had been looking at _Luke 22:7-13_ under the title of PREPARING FOR THE PASSOVER MEAL.
We will title this new study as PARTAKING OF THE LORD’S SUPPER.
As we concluded the previous study, we realised what an awesome privilege it is for us to participate in the Lord’s supper. He is the host and we are invited to this meal. Our preparation and our readiness to fully benefit from the experience of the Lord’s supper is essential. We cannot afford to consign the Lord’s supper to a ritual, which will result in our own hurt.
The Bible warns us not to take part in the Lord’s supper in an unworthy manner, for there are consequences
_I Corinthians 11:27-30 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord *in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord*. (28) But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. (29) For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. (30) For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep._
The earlier study was the preparation but we now get into understanding the Lord’s supper itself and its significance.
The Lord’s supper was with His disciples. The Lord’s supper is exclusively for those who are surrendered and submitted and are walking in a deep, intimate, relationship with Him. This is why it is necessary to be rid of anything that hinders our walk with the Lord before we come to fellowship with Him at His table.
The Lord’s supper was the central event, every time the church met. All of the other activities that happened in the fellowship of the body of Christ, revolved around the main activity, which was the Lord’s supper.
This is what we understand when we read the teaching regarding the Lord’s supper in I Corinthians 11.
The Lord asked us to partake of the Lord’s supper in remembrance of Him. Every time we come together as the church, isn’t Jesus our primary focus?
_Luke 22:19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; *do this in remembrance of Me*."_
So, the Lord’s supper, to partake every time we meet as the church, would be very much the right thing to do.
_Luke 22:14 *When the hour had come*, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him._
The Lord’s supper, as the core activity in our fellowship with our Lord, was now being instituted and set in place. *The hour had come for this institution of the Lord’s supper to be inaugurated and installed, in the church*.
*This was the time when the Passover meal for the Jews was transitioning to become the Lord’s supper for the church*.
We must see our lives from the timings of God. We ought to be part of His timetable and not expect God to be part of our time schedule.
_John 17:3 And this is *eternal life*, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent._
The word ‘eternal’ here is the Greek word, Aionios. This is eternal time.
Time is usually categorized into two categories and they are Chronos and Kairos. Chronos is chronological time and Kairos is the opportune time.
What is taught in Time Management is not to live by the clock and the calendar but to convert our chronological time into Kairos time or opportune time.
As God’s people, we live not just to convert Chronos into Kairos but to see every moment as God’s time or Aionios. We see our life as ‘the hour has come'.
_John 12:23-26 But Jesus answered them, saying, "*The hour has come* that the Son of Man should be glorified. (24) Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. (25) He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (26) If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor._
_John 17:1-3 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, *the hour has come*. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, (2) as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. (3) And *this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent*._
Jesus’s time here on earth was not ordered by Chronos or Kairos but He was always moving in terms of Aionios. He was part of God’s time.
We too must always set our life according to God’s time and not according to what we think is appropriate or how the circumstances pressurise us to live.
*Thought to ponder*
```What is ordering your life right now? Is it the pressures of this world or is it the time of God?```
