02Mar2020 - *Walk humbly with our God* - _Luke 15:11-32_ - Bible reading: _II Chronicles 33:11-13_

_Luke 15:20-21 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. (21) And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.'_

The turnaround process was complete but now came the time for action. He arose and came to his father. Wherever we may be in life, we need to be constantly getting up and returning to our heavenly Father. This journey would have been a hesitant return for the son. Whereas look at the father’s response. No hesitation…no holding back. Love expressed freely, lavishly and unashamedly, to a person, who had hurt him much. The son spoke out the words of confession and repentance. Why is it required of us to speak out loud the words of repentance and asking for forgiveness? It is to declare to the powers of darkness that we are no more under their authority but that we have now come under the authority of God.

The son was coming to the place of humility when he confessed and sought his father’s forgiveness. One of the signs of the end times is pride. _II Timothy 3:1-2 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: (2) For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,_

When we are humble before God, which means it is not a false humility that we put on before people, God will lift us. _I Peter 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up._

Usually, we learn humility only when calamity strikes and God has to use a painful experience to teach us humility but this is not needed. We can remain humble at all times. _II Chronicles 33:11-13 Therefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze fetters, and carried him off to Babylon. (12) Now when he was in affliction, he implored the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, (13) and prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God._

How can we always remain in favour of God? It is when we are at the place of humility. _Isaiah 57:15 For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones._

Humility will also lead us to fear God and the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. _Jeremiah 44:10 They have not been humbled, to this day, nor have they feared; they have not walked in My law or in My statutes that I set before you and your fathers.'_

Finally, what does God require of us? _Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to *walk humbly with your God*?_

*Thought to ponder*

```Father forgive me for I have often gone my own way. I return and submit to you. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.```
