Luke 15 11-32 To seek and the save the lost - The prodigal son 23 The best robe of God’s righteousness
05Mar2020 - *The best robe of God’s righteousness* - _Luke 15:11-32_ - Bible reading: _Zechariah 3:3-4_
_Luke 15:22-24 “But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. (23) And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; (24) for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry._
Yesterday, we understood the second meaning of the word prodigal, which is having or giving something on a lavish scale. This is how God is with us. His grace on us is prodigal in nature. God manifests His longsuffering on us so that we are changed more and more into His image and nature. He forms His character in us so that we will be bridges for many who are lost to come back into that intimate love relationship with Him.
There are three items that the son receives, for which he has no merit. He receives a robe, a ring and sandals. We will look into each of these items that we receive, when we come back to God, into an intimate relationship with Him.
*The best robe*
What is the best robe? We cannot stand before God in our own clothing. Our clothing before the holiness and purity of God is filthy. God has to cover us with His robe, which is the best. _Zechariah 3:3-4 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel. (4) Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, "Take away the filthy garments from him." And to him He said, "See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes."_
Being clothed rightly before God is not optional. _Matthew 22:11-13 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. (12) So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. (13) Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'_
If the clothing of God is mandatory then what does this mean for us? _Revelation 7:13-14 Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, "Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?" (14) And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb._
We have to be clothed with the covering of the blood of Jesus that was shed for us. No other clothing will suffice. His life that was pure and sinless must be our covering. Only then can we stand before God. _Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous. II Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him._
How do we receive this robe of Jesus? We receive this robe of His righteousness, by faith in Jesus. _Romans 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."_ We are justified before God by faith and we also live every day before God by faith. This is our robe of righteousness.
*Thought to ponder*
```There are many, out there, without the best robe. Are you disturbed? Do you feel burdened to share with them that the best robe is available?```
