Luke 18 9-14 The journey of humility 13 A heart of contriteness and brokenness
21Sep2020 - *A heart of contriteness and brokenness* - _Luke 18:9-14_ - THE JOURNEY OF HUMILITY 13 – Bible reading: _Isaiah 66:1-2_
We now come to the end of this parable and the climax of what the Lord is teaching us. We must see here that the Lord began the parable by stating the problem. What was the predicament? _Luke 18:9 Also He spoke this parable to some who *trusted in themselves* that *they were righteous*s, and *despised others*:_
As we come to the end of the parable, the Lord gives us the solution to the crisis. _Luke 18:13-14 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' (14) I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."_
The solution is, _for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted_
How does God view humility in us? _Isaiah 57:15 For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones._
God inhabits eternity. He is Holy. He dwells in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit. Please notice that as much as God inhabits eternity and He is holy, He also inhabits with him who has a contrite and humble spirit. It is a seamless overlap. There is no break in these two thoughts. This is God’s habitation.
Is there anything greater which you and I would long for in life more than the habitation of God with us? God is giving us His hope and expectation. Shouldn’t we respond with wholehearted eagerness and joy to welcome God to inhabit our lives by surrendering to a life of contriteness and humility?
_Isaiah 66:1-2 Thus says the LORD: "Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? (2) For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist," Says the LORD. "But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word._
The Lord is making it known to us, His place of rest. Will we open our hearts to make our lives His place of rest? When we as His people have allowed our lives to be God’s habitation, the devil trembles. This is why he brings in all sorts of heresies and deviations to prevent us from being contrite and broken before God. Let us ensure not to fall prey to the ploy of the evil one.
_Psalm 34:18 The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit._
*Thought to ponder*
```Is contriteness and brokenness your way of life today?```
