*FRIEND OF GOD*

13Jun2021 - *The guarantee of the Holy Spirit* - _Luke 21:25-28_ - WATCH AND PRAY IV (09) – Bible reading: _Ephesians 1:13-14_

We look forward to the return of our Lord since we will be united with Him and we will spend eternity with Him. We must, therefore, put aside every weight and sin that hinders us in our walk with the Lord and give ourselves entirely to Him, to use us for His purposes.

Nothing else should matter for us now, except to be totally thrilled and excited, looking forward to the return of our Lord. Serving the Lord and His people, wholeheartedly.

_Luke 21:28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, *because your redemption draws near*."_

The Lord wants us to look up and lift up our heads for our redemption draws near. This is not the time for us to hang our heads down in fear, doubt, anxiety and dread but to cast aside all that hinders us and look up at Jesus with eagerness and expectation of His glorious return.

_Isaiah 12:1-3 And in that day you will say: "O LORD, I will praise You; Though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, *and You comfort me*. (2) Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; 'For YAH, *the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation*.' " (3) Therefore *with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation*._

The privilege for us is that we draw our waters from the wells of salvation, who is Jesus. Our salvation, which is our complete healing and restoration, is in Jesus and Jesus alone. *He is the one who quenches our innermost thirst*. In Jesus, we are satisfied and rested.

_Isaiah 25:8-9 *He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces*; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the LORD has spoken. (9) And it will be said in that day: "Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the LORD; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation."_

We have waited for the Lord for we know, in our experience, that death is swallowed up forever, in Jesus. Death, which the devil inflicted on us, has been defeated. Death, which meant that we were eternally separated from God, who is life, is now over. Since death is ended, we have no more tears, pain or sorrow.

_Romans 8:23-25 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, *eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body*. (24) For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? (25) But if we hope for what we do not see, *we eagerly wait for it with perseverance*._

We have the firstfruits of the Holy Spirit. Our life here is a continuous outflow of the work of the Holy Spirit.

We eagerly wait for the redemption of our body. A new body, a new habitation has been prepared for us and when the Lord returns, we will be clothed with this new body and we will spend eternity with our Lord.

_I Corinthians 15:51-57 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— (52) in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and *we shall be changed*. (53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (54) So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "*DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY*." (55) "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING? O HADES, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY?" (56) *The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law*. (57) But thanks be to God, *who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ*._

The devil had this against us, telling God that the verdict of death was on us because of our sin. No one was able to meet the righteous requirement of the law and so all had sinned and death was on all of humanity.

_Colossians 2:14-15 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. (15) Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it._

Jesus took this shame and fallenness that was on us because He met the righteous requirement of the law in His flesh, took our sin upon Himself and paid for it on the cross. We, therefore, have the victory over death because of Jesus.

We now live the life of righteousness that we have received by faith and now lived out by His Holy Spirit. Those of us who are living in the righteousness of God in the Holy Spirit will be changed in a moment at the last trumpet. This is our hope and we rejoice with expectation.

_Ephesians 1:13-14 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with *the Holy Spirit of promise, (14) who is the guarantee of our inheritance* until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory._

Since *we are living right now in the righteousness*, the enablement and empowerment of the Holy Spirt, He is the guarantee of our inheritance that is awaiting us at our Lord’s return.

This is why we will not be fearful of the return of our Lord. The world will mourn when they see the Lord return, but for us, we are living in the guarantee of the Holy Spirit, who provides us with righteousness.

*Thought to ponder*

```Don’t allow the devil to steal your joy.```
