23Nov19 - *A life of eternal excellence* - _Luke 14:7-11_ - Bible reading: _Isaiah 60:14-15_

_Luke 14:10-11 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, 'Friend, go up higher.' Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. (11) For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."_

Since yesterday, we began looking at a new teaching that our Lord is giving us. The Lord is teaching us not to look for glory and importance from people, for ourselves. Often this is what happens. We want our name to be vindicated and that honour should be given to us. Our Lord is teaching us never to promote and market ourselves. Yes, we are available for God to lift us up before men, for His glory.

_Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven._ When we are meek, we will inherit the earth _Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth._ This principle is opposite to the ways of this world. The world tells us that the meek will be trodden upon but the Lord is telling us to remain meek and be ready to be lifted up, for His glory and not for our vindication. We will be vindicated too but that is secondary.

_Isaiah 60:14-15 Also the sons of those who afflicted you Shall come bowing to you, And all those who despised you shall fall prostrate at the soles of your feet; And they shall call you The City of the LORD, Zion of the Holy One of Israel. (15) "Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, So that no one went through you, I will make you an *eternal excellence*, A joy of many generations._ God intends to make our lives to be that of eternal excellence. God wants us to be a joy of many generations, where we were instruments of God for His purposes.

*Thought to ponder*

God must reign and we are to reign with Him. _Psalm 113:7-8 He raises the poor out of the dust, And lifts the needy out of the ash heap, (8) That He may seat him with princes— With the princes of His people. James 4:10/I Peter 5:6_
