Luke 14 7-11 Humility for His glory 03 Justification experienced due to humility
25Nov19 - *Justification experienced due to humility* - _Luke 14:7-11_ - Bible reading: _Luke 18:13-14_
_Luke 14:11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."_
This is a kingdom principle. The world laughs and mocks at this principle but as His kingdom people, we must be rooted in this principle. We will look at some of the applications of the principle.
The first application that we will examine is justification. It was the tax collector, who was broken before God, who was justified. The Pharisee, in this story was so full of himself but was not justified before God. _Luke 18:13-14 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' (14) I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."_
As those from the evangelical tradition, we have come to Jesus by faith but subsequently, we begin to justify ourselves before one another by the things that we do and we also think that this is how God justifies us. Let us never forget that justification is never by our achievements but by faith in Jesus, which comes because of humility and brokenness before God. _Luke 16:15 And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God._
_Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Romans 4:5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, Galatians 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified._
When we walk in brokenness and humility before God, then the Lord takes up our cause. _Romans 8:33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies._
*Thought to ponder*
God’s justification does not give us a license to sin, nevertheless, our justification is when we are cast upon Him in humility.
