Luke 14 7-11 Humility for His glory 05 The meek will inherit the earth
27Nov19 - *The meek will inherit the earth* - _Luke 14:7-11_ - Bible reading: _Judges 6:11-16_
_Luke 14:11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."_
This is a kingdom principle. The world laughs and mocks at this principle but as His kingdom people, we must be rooted in this principle. God lifts up the humble for His glory. We will look at some of the applications of this principle.
The first application of humility that we examined yesterday was the principle of justification. The second application, was the application of experiencing God’s grace. Today we will look at the third application of humility.
_Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth._
We look at a verse like this and we shrug our shoulders saying that this is a good to read in the Bible but this will not work in real life. The world that we live in, is an arrogant world, where the meek and lowly are pushed aside, neglected and ignored. It seems as though it is only those, who assert and grab for themselves, have gone ahead in life.
Friends, let us take a long-term perspective and let us look at history. We see the prophetic song of Mary. _Luke 1:51-52 He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. (52) He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly._ If Jesus was not the Son of God and if He was not operating out of the principle of the meek inheriting the earth, then how could He, a simple carpenter, have transformed society and be in the process of the transforming the whole of creation?
Let us look at another example, the example of Gideon. Gideon rewrote the history of Israel. He saw himself as nothing but God chose Gideon and used Him for His glory. _Judges 6:11-16 Now the Angel of the LORD came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. (12) And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, "The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!" (13) Gideon said to Him, "O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, 'Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?' But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites." (14) Then the LORD turned to him and said, "Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?" (15) So he said to Him, "O my Lord, how can I save Israel? *Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house."* (16) And the LORD said to him, "Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man."_
Whereas, Saul tried to grab for himself and he wanted to assert his position. We know the tragic end of Saul the King. _I Samuel 15:17 So Samuel said, "When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the LORD anoint you king over Israel?_
*Thought to ponder*
```Friend, are you grabbing and asserting your identity? Learn to be meek and let God lift you up.```
