Sat25Dec2021 - Born to be our King - Christmas 3 – Bible reading: Isaiah 9:6-7

“Lord Jesus, we celebrate this day for You were born to be our King. Lord Jesus, as our King, we surrender, submit and we also fall before You in worship for You are King and You are our God. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”

My wife, Rita and I greet all of you this day, as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus was born to reveal God to us. He was born to be our Saviour and today we will consider that Jesus was born to be our King.

When Jesus is our King, we find our entire sanctum in Him. He is our habitat and in Him, we come to our place of rest.

Luke 2:10-11 Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. (11) For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Jesus is our Christ, our Lord. Jesus is the Messiah King.

The Jews were waiting, fervently, for the Messiah King to come and set up His kingdom, in which they would find their rest. This was the glad tidings, the Good News that the angels told the shepherds.

Micah 5:2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting."

The everlasting Ruler of Israel would be born in Bethlehem.

Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (7) Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

The Messianic rule was an everlasting reign and this King Jesus was born to bring this everlasting kingdom into our realization.

Jeremiah 23:5-6 “Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. (6) In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

In this reign of Jesus, the Messiah-King, we will dwell in safety. This is a reign of righteousness. The Messiah King would also be our Priest for us to live in righteousness in His kingdom.

Zechariah 6:12-13 Then speak to him, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, saying: "Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH! From His place He shall branch out, And He shall build the temple of the LORD; (13) Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD. He shall bear the glory, And shall sit and rule on His throne; So He shall be a priest on His throne, And the counsel of peace shall be between them both." '

The prophecy of the Messiah is in Daniel.

Daniel 9:25-26 “Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times. (26) "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

Jesus was Messiah and the Prince. The Jews were looking forward that the Messiah Prince would come and set up His kingdom. When the angels made the announcement to the shepherds, it was all, finally, becoming a reality, which was already in place for everlasting.

Jesus affirmed that He was the Messiah Prince.

John 4:25-26 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things." (26) Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."

Nathanael was able to recognize Jesus.

John 1:49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"

Simon Peter, inspired by God, gave the same affirmation.

Matthew 16:16-18 Simon Peter answered and said, " You are the Christ, the Son of the living God ." (17) Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. (18) And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

The gates of hades would not prevail against the church, which is built on Jesus the Messiah King.

We, therefore, need to be born into this kingdom of Jesus.

Mark 1:14-15 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, (15) and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."

There is a need for us to repent, turn our backs to any other rule and authority that we have been under, then, joyfully, submit to our Messiah King Jesus.

The Christmas message is for us to surrender and submit under the rule, the authority of our Messiah King Jesus.

Jesus was born to be our Christ, the King .

Thought to ponder

Ensure that you are a citizen of the kingdom of the Messiah King Jesus.
