Luke 14 34-35 Being the Salt 02 The salt that God has intended us to be
14Jan2020 - *The salt that God has intended us to be* - _Luke 14:34-35_ - Bible reading: _II Corinthians 2:14-16_
_Luke 14:34-35 “Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavour, how shall it be seasoned? (35) It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"_
What is salt that our Lord is teaching us about? Salt is Jesus, Himself. Just as the light is Jesus, salt too is Jesus
God had to be operational in the lives of the people, if their offering had to be accepted by God. _Leviticus 2:13 And every offering of your grain offering you shall season with salt; you shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt._
Often, in the Old Testament, we read that God was not pleased with the offering that the people offered to Him. This was because God was not operational in their lives. _Mark 9:49 “For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt._
This whole understanding of God operating through us is explained for us by Paul. _II Corinthians 2:14-16 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place._ In Christ, we are led in triumph and through us the understanding of who Christ is, is diffused in every place.
_(15) For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing._ God smells us to see if the fragrance of Jesus can be smelt in us. *Do you think that God will be able to smell the fragrance of Jesus from your life?*
When the fragrance of Jesus is being smelt from our lives, by God, then we become those who distinguish between life and death to those, who are being saved and those, who are perishing. _(16) To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?
There was in Palestine a kind of salt that would actually lose its saltness. This is what is said about this kind of salt. ```so troublesome is this corrupted salt, that it is carefully swept up, carried forth, and thrown into the street. There is no place about the house, yard, or garden where it can be tolerated. No man will allow it to be thrown on to his field, and the only place for it is the street, and there it is cast to be trodden underfoot of men."```
If Christ is not operational through us, then the consequences are terrible. What will you choose? Will you be one with Jesus, to have the salt in you?
*Thought to ponder*
```The world offers us the option to function without Jesus. What will you choose, the world or the Word?```
