The theme verse for the book of Romans
Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes – Romans 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Today’s verse
Romans 1:13 Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles
The hindrance
Romans 15:22 For this reason I also have been much hindered from coming to you.
Romans 15:23-28 – Paul explains the background to the letter to the Romans – This is the basis for us to infer that Paul wrote this letter from Corinth, since he went to Corinth to collect the gift of the Corinthians for the church at Jerusalem.
Acts 19:21 When these things were accomplished, Paul purposed in the Spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome.”
I Thessalonians 2:18 Therefore we wanted to come to you—even I, Paul, time and again—but Satan hindered us.
When we are in the work of the kingdom of God – Satan will hinder in different ways – we must be aware that we are in a spiritual battle field – Matthew 16:19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
II Corinthians 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
I John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
John 17:15-18 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. (16) They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. (17) Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. (18) As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
Ephesians 6:10-13 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. (11) Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (13) Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Fruit bearing
Fruit bearing is not optional – Matthew 7:19
Our life here on earth is to bring fruit or harvest for the Lord –
John 4:34-35 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. (35) Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!
Matthew 9:36-38 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. (37) Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. (38) Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
People are weary and scattered like sheep having no shepherd. If we look at around us, we can see people, who need to be healed and restored to fullness of life. We need the eyes of Jesus to see people as they are.
Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; (19) to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Romans 1:14 I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise.
We are debtors to serve people
Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. Galatians 5:13-14
II Corinthians 4:5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.
Acts 26:17-19 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, (18) to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ (19) “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,
II Corinthians 5:18-20 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, (19) that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. (20) Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
Romans 1:15 So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.
Preach the gospel
I Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, (2) by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. (3) For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, (4) and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,
Matthew 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.
Luke 4:43-44 but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.” (44) And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
Acts 20:25 “And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more.
Act 28:30-31 Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him, (31) preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.
Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
